The e-skills UK Sector Qualification and Learning Strategy (SQLS) sets out the principles to ensure that the development of qualifications and learning associated with them are firmly focused on the needs of employers. The intended audience of the e-skills UK SQLS is those organisations, in all four UK nations, who are involved in the policy, regulation, development, funding and delivery of qualifications and learning.

The principles set out in the SQLS have been developed in partnership with employers, awarding bodies and stakeholders. The latest version of the document, published on 4th April 2008, is also based on the findings of the IT and Telecoms Insights 2008 series of reseach reports which presents a unique view of the key trends, opportunities and challenges facing the UK over the next ten years, and their implications for skills.

The SQLS puts employers at the heart of a simplified, flexible, fit-for-purpose framework for recognising individual achievement and developing economically valuable skills.

Action Plans will follow, detailing the implementation of these principles for each of the four countries of the UK.
