Professionalism in IT

The skills challenges facing the UK's IT industry

  • Technology is at the heart of today's business operations and is key to competitive advantage.
  • The increased strategic and operational importance of technology demands better understanding and development of the professional skills on which this depends.

The UK needs to develop IT professionals who can add clear value to organisations, whose skills and capabilities are easy to identify, and whose ongoing development will enable them to continue to succeed in a fiercely competitive global market

  • There is severe competition for the highly skilled professionals who can deliver business value from technology. At the same time there is a catastrophic drop off in young people choosing an A level or degree in a Computing subject.
  • Without a clear strategy to ensure rapid improvement in the skills pipeline and enhance the development of IT professionals, the UK will be impacted across every sector of the economy.

A professional approach to the recognition of capability and development of talent across the workforce is essential – presented in clear, simple language and applicable to businesses of all sizes, across all sectors.
