e-skills internship Steering Group

Purpose and objectives

The purpose of the e-skills internship Steering Group is to monitor and refine requirements, where necessary, during piloting of the scheme.

e-skills internship - the professional placement, defines a quality standard for employers and universities offering industrial placement schemes. The scheme, based on best practice and a series of expected outcomes, has been designed by a board of leading employers and universities.

Context

Recent e-skills UK research on the extent to which IT graduates are prepared for work in a business environment reveals that while employers are very satisfied with the technical competence of new graduates, they have concerns about the lack of business, communications and interpersonal skills.

Evidence from both employers and universities indicates that that one of the best ways of developing such ‘business-ready’ skills is through business placements.

The groups meets as required to monitor the scheme throughout pilot.
