Employers

The development of Diplomas is the first time that the government has placed employers at the heart of qualification design in schools and colleges.

Why get involved

Employers will be integral to the successful delivery of the Diploma in IT. Contributions from employers will ensure that the Diploma is relevant and exciting, bringing together theory and practice.

By getting involved you will:

  • help to ensure that the UK’s future workforce has the skills and knowledge it needs to support continued business success;
  • encourage more young people to consider an IT related career, widening the pool of available talent for your business, suppliers and customers;
  • give your employees the chance to develop their skills by participating in the education of young people;
  • enjoy the rewarding experience of putting something back into the local community while raising your profile.

How to get involved

There are many ways in which you can get involved:

  • Visits to your business;
  • Work experience for students;
  • Student mentoring;
  • Regular tutoring of individuals or small groups;
  • Lectures;
  • Work-placements/shadowing for teachers;
  • Case studies based on your company's use of IT.

We recently held a series of Showcase events which provided employers with a chance to meet those involved locally in the development of the Diploma in IT.

Andy Hill, Head of Resourcing at Vodafone and a member of the Diploma Development Partnership

"Employers of IT professionals want talented individuals with the blend of business and technology skills that enable them to work effectively at the heart of the organisation. This requires a fundamental shift in the way technology is taught at school level. The Diploma represents a significant step in the right direction. The content and delivery of the Diploma will help develop young people both for demanding university courses and rewarding, flexible careers."
