The IT Professional Competency Model
Background and model outline
Working with BCS and IET, e-skills UK agreed the need for a single model to which we could all align, and which would include the work of e-skills UK on sector qualifications reform and the work of BCS and IET on professional registration and Certified IT Professional status. e-skills UK had the responsibility for developing that model.
We consulted with employers, The Prof IT alliance Partners (BCS, NCC, Intellect), the ProfIT Steering Board and the shadow IT Registration Board to create the outline of a unified model which works for employers of IT professionals in all areas of the economy, and for all 'Professionalism in IT' partners. The outline, which was published last year, is available to download below.
e-skills PROCOM - IT Professional Competency Model - outline 2007 (PDF - 132KB)
e-skills PROCOM allocates the competencies IT professionals have – in other words, what they can actually do – into subject-based 'disciplines' and levels. The model also includes transferable skills, such as business and personal skills, which apply to all disciplines.
