Content of the Welsh Baccaulareate

The Welsh Baccalaureate is a qualification for students in Wales aged between 14 to 19 years. It has been introduced by the Welsh Assembly Government to transform the learning experience for young people across Wales.

It combines personal development skills with formal qualifications to make one wider award that is valued by employers and universities alike. It gives broader experiences than traditional learning programmes, to suit the diverse needs of young people. It can be studied in English or Welsh, or a combination of the two languages.

The Welsh Baccalaureate is available at three levels; foundation, intermediate and advanced. The qualification consists of two elements, the generic core, which is studied by all students, and a range of subject-specific options.

From 2009, Principal Learning in Information Technology is being offered as one of the subject-specific options to complement the core learning.

Please visit www.wbq.org.uk  for more information about the qualification.
