IT employers back common language for skills
As part of the Professionalism in IT initiative, e-skills UK has developed the IT Professional Competency Model - a simple and flexible segmentation of the IT workforce that will help employers, educators and others to communicate using a common language and framework for skills, knowledge and experience. The IT Professional Competency Model represents the first step in a sector-wide, integrated approach to professional capabilities. It assigns the competencies IT professionals have – in other words, what they can actually do - into 'disciplines' and levels. The model also includes transferable skills, such as business and personal skills, which apply to all disciplines. The model will be the basis for a more detailed specification of 'what it means to be competent' at each level within the disciplines. These specifications will help employers with recruitment and development planning and motivate individuals through their career progression. They will also inform the content of qualifications, education and training courses. For further information please go to www.e-skills.com/profit |
