e-skills Professional Programme

young professionals working together

The e-skills Professional Programme is a flexible, fast track and modular development scheme that accelerates the business contribution of IT professionals in the early years of their careers. It has been created by employers for employers, to help companies of all sizes and across all sectors offer nationally-recognised, high quality development to their new IT recruits.

The challenge

The programme addresses a real and important challenge for the UK - i.e. the fact that, due to the impact of globalisation, new IT professionals must progress rapidly to higher level roles without access to the traditional 'entry level' jobs that would help them to build their skills and experience.

The solution

The e-skills Professional Programme will enable new IT professionals to rapidly build a strong foundation of competence in the early years of their career. The programme is modular, with modules covering technical, business, project management and communication skills, among others.

The programme enables all new IT professionals to benefit from the same top quality training regardless of their background or organisation. Participants will benefit from interacting with peers from other companies.

After completing the e-skills Professional Foundation Programme (Post Graduate Certificate: PG Cert), participants can progress to the e-skills Professional Specialist Options and earn the e-skills Professional Specialist Award (Post Graduate Diploma: PG Dip). An additional project could lead to a full Masters degree (Master of Science: MSc).

Benefits

The programme will deliver talented, capable and motivated IT professionals – eager to learn and quick to progress to more demanding roles. It will develop graduates by providing them with the skills and knowledge to contribute to your team and interact comfortably with non-technical colleagues. They will also gain an understanding of the business objectives behind IT. In today’s fast-changing, global labour market, the competition to recruit and develop such candidates is increasingly fierce.

Strong support

The programme has strong employer and university support. Employers are working with e-skills UK to define what IT Professionals need to learn in their early career years. Universities are developing innovative and workplace friendly ways to deliver the programme.
