e-skills UK Professional Placement has involved, to date (31/01/12):
- over 600 students
- 250 employers
- 55 universities
Employers involvement
GlaxoSmithKline have said that, based on their experience to date with the e-skills UK Internship, they would like to use this programme for all of their IT student placements (around 40 a year).
Other employers which have been involved with or are participating in the e-skills UK Internship programme include Capgemini, IBM, Network Rail, Thomson Reuters, ProspectSoft, NHS, MMT Digital, MediaVest, Goal Group, Qualsys Ltd., Withers LLP, Worldwide Clinical Trials, Syngenta, Vuonline, Weatherford, Nestle, Doxmart, Leicester City Council, Sony, Bupa, Bostik, Ash Gaming.
Students survey
In a recent survey of students:
- 97% felt they had benefited from taking an undergraduate placement.
- 94% intended to continue their career in the technology sector.
- 97% felt that as a result of taking a placement they were in a stronger position to get a job.
- 81% felt after taking a placement they were in a stronger position to complete their degree.
- 88% felt the emphasis on employability in the e-skills Professional Placement has helped prepare them for the world of work.
