Every year the IT & Telecoms professional workforce requires almost 21,000 new entrants directly from education. At present, only 17% of IT professionals are women and only 15% of students on IT-related degrees in the UK are female.
Our industry-driven Girls in IT campaign aims to increase the number of female IT professionals – 17%, to reflect the percentage of women in the UK’s working population – 45%.

What e-skills UK aims to do
Girls consistently outperform boys in IT-related subjects at school, but too rarely continue their studies and choose careers in technology.
We’ve found that many female students don’t realise what an IT career can involve and see the sector as male-dominated, geeky and complex. We want to ensure that girls are given opportunities to gain new skills in technology and understand more about IT careers.
