e-skills PROCOM
The IT Professional Competency Model
e-skills PROCOM is the 'IT Professional Competency Model' - a new, sector-wide approach to expressing IT professional capabilities. This simple and flexible model will help employers, educators and others to communicate using a common language and framework for skills, knowledge and experience.
The e-skills PROCOM end solution will be a comprehensive one-stop shop for information on IT Professional competencies with clear positioning of learning and qualifications.
The model came to life as part of the Professionalism in IT work - find out more about the background and model outline.
Moving forward
The plan is to produce a first full release of e-skills PROCOM by summer 2008 as a document, with the fully interactive, online model available in 2009.

The bigger picture
We have already started on a number of work packages which are being brought together through the e-skills PROCOM model, including the creation of the IT Professional Development Programme.
With regards to SFIA - the Skills Framework for the Information Age - SFIA is being revised to bring it up to date with current good practice including alignment with the subject-based disciplines of PROCOM.
Whilst SFIA is a skills framework to support the development of job descriptions and role profiles, the PROCOM model is an industry-recognised framework for organising qualifications and learning by the disciplines of the IT profession.
PROCOM enables employers to plan learning and development based on a SFIA-defined job role.
